Uncontested divorces with no children are handled on a flat fee. Uncontested divorces with children, custody modifications, and support modifications are handled on a flat fee or hourly with a retainer, depending on complexity. Contested divorces and custody disputes are hourly only with a substantial retainer; this is the only honest way to bill a contested matter where the work is genuinely unpredictable. Specific numbers are quoted at the consultation after the situation is understood.

The first conversation runs about 20 minutes. The call covers what is happening, what you want, what the realistic options are, and what the work would cost. There is no obligation to hire the firm at the end of that call. If the matter is not the right fit — because the situation calls for a different specialty — you will be told that directly.
